8/10 — A Luxury You Didn't Know You Needed

The Ember Mug 2 is one of those products that sounds unnecessary until you try it — and then you can never go back to a regular mug. Keeping your coffee at exactly 135°F for every single sip is a small luxury that genuinely improves your morning. At $129.95 it's definitely premium for a mug, but if you're a slow coffee drinker like me, it's honestly life-changing. The app control, beautiful design, and satisfying charging coaster make it feel like the Apple of mugs.

The Problem It Solves

Be honest — how many times a day do you microwave your coffee? For me it was like three times minimum. I'm a slow sipper. I get distracted, I'm answering emails, filming content, and by the time I go back to my coffee it's lukewarm at best. Gross.

The Ember Mug 2 solved this completely. You set your ideal drinking temperature in the app (mine is 135°F), and the mug maintains that exact temperature from the first sip to the last. No reheating. No rushing to finish before it gets cold. It's genuinely one of those "why didn't this exist sooner" products.

How It Works

The Ember Mug 2 has a built-in heating element and battery, all sealed inside what looks and feels like a premium ceramic mug. Pour in your hot coffee, and the mug uses its internal heating to maintain whatever temperature you've set via the Ember app (Bluetooth).

The temperature range is 120°F to 145°F — which covers the ideal drinking temperature for coffee, tea, hot chocolate, you name it. It can't heat cold liquid from scratch (you still brew your coffee normally), but it maintains the temperature beautifully.

On battery, it lasts about 80 minutes. On the included charging coaster, it stays warm indefinitely. I keep mine on the coaster at my desk, so it's basically always at the perfect temp whenever I want a sip.

The App Experience

The Ember app is clean and simple. You can:

The notification feature is actually super useful — you pour your fresh coffee, and the app pings you when it's cooled to your perfect drinking temperature. No more burning your tongue!

Design & Build Quality

The Ember Mug 2 looks gorgeous. It comes in multiple colors (I have the white one), and the matte ceramic finish feels premium. It's slightly heavier than a normal mug because of the battery and electronics inside, but not uncomfortably so.

The charging coaster is also really well designed — it's a flat disk with a subtle LED ring that shows charging status. It looks great on a desk. The whole package just feels... Apple-level premium. Like someone who cares about design made this.

Sizes & Pricing

I'd recommend the 10 oz for desk use and the Travel Mug if you're always on the go. The 14 oz is great if you just want a bigger cup.

Common Questions

How long does the Ember Mug 2 battery last?
Up to 80 minutes on the 10 oz version when actively maintaining temperature. On the charging coaster, it keeps your drink warm indefinitely and stays charged. I keep mine on the coaster at my desk so it's always ready.
Can you put the Ember Mug 2 in the dishwasher?
Nope — hand-wash only because of the electronics inside. The charging coaster should be wiped clean, not submerged. It's a minor thing, but hand-washing a single mug takes like 30 seconds.
Does the Ember Mug 2 work with tea?
Absolutely! It works with any hot beverage — coffee, tea, hot chocolate, warm cider, you name it. The 120°F–145°F range covers ideal temps for pretty much any hot drink. I use it for both coffee in the morning and tea in the afternoon.
What's the difference between the 10 oz and 14 oz?
The 10 oz ($129.95) has better battery life (80 min vs 60 min) since there's less liquid to heat. The 14 oz ($149.95) is great if you want a bigger cup. Same features and app support on both.
